George Washington

George Washington (Photo credit: Joye~)

I’ve not had a good rant upon these electronic pages in quite awhile, so it is well passed time I did so. Getting out the whining rod and looking for some butts!

The political season is in full title in America these days. The Democrats are using the same, old dated and false rhetoric. The Republicans are making the same, old dated and empty appeals and promises. We know that they don’t mean it. We all know all they want is to consolidate their political power. George Washington warned the country about political parties and he was far more correct than he may have wished.

The problem, however, is not with the parties. The problem is with the people, with the voters. America was founded on the greatness of the individual, not the society, not a collective. It was the individual who mattered most. Liberty is the highest goal and it demands the highest price.

The very bothersome issue to me is the continued whining by the very people who voted for these clowns. They complain the loudest and the most often. They organize under the Tea Party and Occupy Wall Street. They created the mess. They are to blame.

Partisan stupidity is why I don’t vote for either party anymore. Oh, I vote. I seek out Libertarian and Constitutional Party candidates. I seek those with real solutions and not the worry of maintaining power. This November, it is time to dump the elephants and the jackasses. It is time to move on to real Liberty. Vote another way.

You spend hours creating the perfect article. It is awesome: 4,000 words and all. It tells every point you could think of for your brand new product. It is all there. Every question anyone could ever ask. Even James May would be impressed. At the bottom you place a link for your signup page. This is going to sell like hotcakes. Nothing happens. Why?

You have violated one of the three too’s of Internet marketing. The three whats? The too’s. As in too long, too selling and too serious. I am amazed how often these are ignored and violated in the marketing I see on the Internet. Here is there importance.

If you want to keep the attention of your targeted audience, do not ramble on and on about the virtues of your product. Get to the point and keep them engaged. This is true whether your content is an article, a blog post or a video. No, it doesn’t have to be 30 seconds, though taking a clue from good marketing you see on television is a good start. Remember the frogs of Budweiser? Each commercial should them on a journey. No one commercial told it all. Did you tune in each time? Exactly.

Secondly is doing too much selling. If your content comes across as all sales and no substance, you will come off as a used car salesman. Don’t go there. Today’s audience is far too savvy to fall for beguiling speech. You might land a sale from time to time, but will most likely have a refund coming your way. The buyer will fill unfulfilled. You will not meet their pain nor solve it. You have wasted their time and your opportunity at a long term relationship.

At the end of this list is being too serious. Yes, we know you have a business. Yes, we know you are wanting to make a sale. Yes, we know you believe you can relieve the pain of someone. Yes, we know you want to be taken seriously. We get it. Now loosen up and have some fun with your marketing. Don’t be afraid to use a contraction in your article. Don’t be afraid to use slang or improper grammar in blog posting. Heck, you might try introducing a mispelling to see if anyone is paying attention. Do keep it appropriate. If your audience is the small business type, use their terms, not so slang from the streets of New York. Know who your audience is and how they communicate. Take your fun to them.

Be sure to keep the three too’s in the back of your mind when creating your Internet content. Make it real for your audience. Remember, the actual goal is to create a long term relationship that will last well past the first sale. You want to attract people to you, not send them looking for someone else. Be brief, use the soft sale and have fun.

Throughout the weeks, great ideas for postings and articles come about my mind. Many times complete articles run about, nearly always at times where I am unable to put thought to paper, electronic or the old style analog. What does one do when stuck in traffic or walking the dog? Let ideas flow and dispense them into the universe and let the universe return the ideas to you. What else would one do? New ideas will replace old ones. New directions will emerge from the withered husks of the old.

Upon this week, I’ve decided to do with something new. As I look at the marketing of others in articles, videos, blog and even Facebook, I have noticed three common mistakes. This week I will present my take on this mistakes via video, blog and article. Not before have I been focused on one topic in all my ways of communicating with the world.

It is now time for the words to flow via all forms.

The Golden Hour

Clarity. It is required to get what you want. Your thoughts have to be clear of fear and overbearing. Clarity is the absence of fog and haze. Clarity shines brightly. Clarity comes in steps. One step is to start with the end.

Create a goal

One step of the road to clarity is having a well defined goal. Not a wishy-washy, pie in the sky, maybe someday I’ll have that goal. Not a goal where you are waiting for your ship to arrive. A goal that you can describe and touch. One that you know by heart. One were you can describe the smell and the sound. One you can touch. One that burns in your mind. Yes, one clearly define. A wishing goal will never be reached. A someday goal will never be had.

Get that goal down. Define every part of it. How will you feel when you reach it? How does a person at that goal talk and act? What will your life be like when you have reached that goal? Seeing your goal is not enough. See yourself at that goal.

Building a path

If you don’t have a path, any road will get you there. Build that path by working

backward to you. Create your path to that goal. Define major milestones along the way. Discover the changes and tasks that will lead to those milestones. The result will be your path.

Let’s say you want to be the a great Internet Entrepreneur. That is the end goal. Discover all the aspects of that goal. One will be a great website that pulls traffic. Forget all the chatter and noise on how to get such a website. Work backward on step. A business needs leads, lots of them. Another step back is traffic. How to drive traffic? What do you like to do? Write? Do videos? Place ads? Write that down. That’s your next step. All these steps are your milestones. Create the tasks for each milestone.

Generating a routine

Did you choose writing articles? Would you rather do video? Choose one and do it. Find a site on which to write articles. Perhaps use WordPress or HubPages. Start writing. Don’t worry about topics, just write. Write what you feel. Write what you believe. Write about your passion. Write. Set a goal to write once a week. Hit that and set the goal to twice. Hit that, set the goal to three times per week. Write longer articles. Write with more passion. After content has been created, now use Google to find key words related to your topics. Write and write and write. Content creates volume. Content creates awareness. Content creates mass. Content creates expertise. Content creates clarity.

Do not move to another marketing avenue until you have mastered one. Do not try all of the avenues at once. Choose one and be the rest there ever was at it. Research what the experts are doing and model yourself after them. No need to copy them. No need to imitate. Use your voice. Tell your story. Move alone your path.

Goal reached, next

Success will come when your goals are well defined. Success will come when you create your plan to each those goals. Clarity comes from creating the plan. Creating comes from defining your goals in every aspect. See where you want to be. Be where you want to be. Only one thing, only one person, only one circumstance will ever hold you back. That one thing is You. Don’t let Yourself do that. Go!

Live on all three legs

The triangle. It gives rise to stability. The basic shape is the basis for the pyramids. It focuses energy along a wide base. It is not easily tipped.

The tripod.

The three-legged stool.

There are meany uses for having a base of three. It is a very stable and robust platform. It can adapt quickly to changes and still be stable. Take the tripod as an example. In photography, the legs of the tripod can be placed in many positions and still provide a very stable platform to take pictures. Many allow the legs to move independently giving even greater range. It is very helpful.

People are no different. They need a stable platform. There are three legs to this stable platform: community, structure and purpose. These are the three legs to your life.

Have a purpose

It is tough to live without a direction to follow. That direction is what one’s purpose is. It determines the weight and cause for every action. It is what keeps pushing, no matter how tough the going. Purpose is the driving force. Without a purpose, people wonder aimlessly around, never realizing the flowering of their talents. Purpose is the reason for life. Every person was put here for a reason, find your purpose and you will have your reason.

Structure gives strength

Remove the skeletal system from a human body and it will not be able to stand, sit, walk, crawl or breathe. The skeleton gives support to the entire body. It keeps organs in their place and provides protection. One cannot live with the structure known as the skeleton.

A person also needs structure in their lives. Structure provides support and efficiency. It dances with purpose to give full development to one’s life. Put structure in your life and see new heights.

Live in a community

Separate, people can do good things. Together they can do great things, many times unbelievable things. Great things. Beautiful things. Together the combines efforts of many becoming greater than the sum of their parts. The efforts multiply on one another. Together, people create community and with it, support, education, mentorship, support, growth. Community allows each of us to explore, grow, learn, express and love. It is the last missing piece for stability and focus. Community ties all the parts together and allows us to shine. Don’t explore alone, but a part of something bigger. Get community.

Writing

Articles, they are a good way to drive some traffic. The get knowledge out about you, your brand and your products. They take time. They let you link all your content, making a web of who you are. It is great.

You write the articles, carefully researching the keywords to use to get the best results. Phrases such as “making money on-line” and “the best home business for 2012” are among your sentences. You add slogans like “best in class” and “people over products”. You are set. You are going places.

You have no traffic

Carefully go over the articles you see that are similar that get traffic. Are they heavy marketing rags or more believable as true content? Are they stories or a rap sheet? Are they reviews or commercials? Today’s Internet savvy shopper will see right through phoney content. Make it real. Stop marketing and start writing. Don’t fall to the trappings of article marketing.

Frozen circles of life and death to the portal...

Frozen circles of life and death to the portal of other lands (Photo credit: texym11)

Time. It goes by quickly. A few hours grow to become a few days. A few days expand to cover a week. Time. It waits for no one. It marches to its own speed. Never slowing. Never going backward. Always forward. Time.

Not long ago, a mentor helped me to realize I was on the wrong path. I was put on this Earth to do far more than program computers. I was put here for far more than building websites, taking pictures or writing blog posts. I was put here to make a positive change the lives of others. Doing so would in turn change my life. That process has become. Each day, I look for the moment, for the opportunity to change the life of someone else. It matters not if the change is small or large. The goal is to create a positive change.

Each day, new steps are seen. Each day, new steps are missed. Each day, new steps are taken. Each day, new steps are left untrod. The challenge is not only to see, but to act. See and Act! Together, never separate. First one must see. Then one must act.

A mission

When I was younger, I heard many sermons on changing people’s lives. Typically, these were given by missionaries looking to encourage young people into one form of ministry or another. None ever gave much appeal to me. I had friends that journeyed out, not understanding why I staid behind. “Here is where I belong,” I would tell them. Cowardice was their thought.

More than once, the opportunity for ministry came about. I tried here and there, never appealed for long. I knew that I marveled in watching others grow. I tried different ways to affect that, none stuck to me as a true sense of purpose. I kept an eye out.

About a year ago, a new opportunity arose. It masked itself as a business, thought it is far more. Education. Training. Mentorship. All of the items I had missed in various business ideas over the years. The cost was not cheap. The path was well laid. The leadership encouraging. The education second to none. I stepped out. Way out of my comfort zone. And went under.

Head above water

For months I was overwhelmed with tasks. I did them all with great joy and excitement. I placed ads. I did videos. I wrote. I bought. I listened. I set goals. I. I. I. Me. Me. Me.

My family missed me. My wife missed me. I become lost in my own excitement. My joy turned to sorrow. I was broke. No money. No leads. No sales. No nothing. All due to the wrong focus. My eyes were on myself. They were not on others.

More than once, mentors offered a rope to my hands. More than once I halfheartedly took the offer. I wasted their time. I wasted money. Then it happened. The shore, you idiot. It is over there. Swim or get eaten.

My head was finally above water. I swam toward the real goals. I saw again my I am here. I am here to change the lives of others. My purpose is to make you a better person. The addition for you may be small or it may propel you to heights never before seen. It does not matter. You need help and I need to help you. The path is there to be seen. Act now. It is time to wake up!
